I am a bit older than you, so the Threads algorithm brought me a post the other day looking for other people experiencing perimenopause, and _that_ called said people ‘girlies’. Perimenopause!!

Oh my God, I literally just saw a “perimenopause girlies” in the wild this morning! It’s spreading!

I’m always glad to hear about other people’s pedantries and textual bug bears. It assures me I’m not alone.

In our defence, as I said to my children the other day after I corrected them yet again), it’s been our job to care about words and it’s hard to let that go.

At least they're not demure or mindful. Co-signed, your equally ancient friend x

Oh God, don’t get me started on demure and mindful 🙈 It started off vaguely amusing, but then it reached a stage where every second person on my feed was rushing to say it - it was almost as if everyone had been told they had to say it at some point…

I think every year I age shaves off about ten hours from the gap between "mildly amusing" and "nerve-shreddingly cringeworthy"...

What about “hubby”? Nothing gives me murderous thoughts like someone who says “hubby”.

Oh, “hubby” is dreadful… Lately I’ve been seeing “the hubster” a lot too, which I think is even worse!

Past ones that have got on my nerves include describing everything as authentic and using the phrase “It’s just banter” as an all purpose excuse but both of those have died down now.

Oh, yes! And, similar to the “banter”’one is “I’m not being rude, but…” which is a surefire sign the person is about to be rude…

Much like the reaction you have to "pupster", that's my reaction to "littles". I even just rolled my eyes typing it.

Another one that gets under my skin is "life hack", especially when I see people using it to describe things that are actually theft. For example, they move a price sticker from something cheap to something expensive and then use the self-checkout and call it a "life hack" to save money. I guess if it was a female doing it they'd be a "thieving girlie"?

I see your "littles" and raise you a "kiddos" - not quite as bad, granted, but still grating when it's used constantly 😬

I think 'life hack' tends to be used in the same way 'unhinged' is, which is to describe something that's completely normal, like, "Life hack! Use the alarm on your phone to wake you up in the morning!" or "Life hack! Shampoo will turn dirty hair into clean hair!"

Yes "kiddos" is another one, though not quite as bad for me either but maybe just because I've heard it longer. Maybe "littles" will eventually feel that way too.

I do laugh too at the things I see on social media that I feel are just normal and not "life hacks" or, the new one, "underconsumption core".

Ooh, ‘underconsumption core’ is a new one on me! Pretty much anything ‘core’ is an instant ‘ick’, though.
