I would have done the same with the fly situation. I think we are too quick to invalidate children's feelings, you did the right thing.
Also feeling rather sad about Matthew Perry. Seems such a waste given his talent and how young he was. And Friends was a big thing in my teenage years. My sister and I watched it religiously. I remember asking for 'a Rachel' haircut 😂
I really wanted a Rachel too, although, in a rare moment of good sense for me, I had the foresight to realise it would look terrible on me, so I managed to resist! Jennifer Anniston still has amazing hair, though - I’d love to know her secret, but I suspect it’s probably just genetic!
Oh well done! I don't think I'd got that much insight at that point. Sadly my hair just didn't do 'Rachel'. Looked fab until I washed it and then turned into its usual fluffy mess. Yes, probably and a lot of spare money for products and stylists.
I loved the Bear and agree that it gets better/less frantic in the second season but I understand where you’re coming from. I can’t watch Breaking Bad because the tension is unbearable and apparently it’s like that every episode.
That Youthbomb body lotion is great - it’s perked up my chest and tummy skin after a few months use.
My 15yo is a HUGE Swiftie but even she was much less excited this time around - TS has given us so much in the last couple of years that there’s only so much emotional energy you can put into getting excited every time. Convinced that once she finishes the Eras tour that she’ll disappear for a while to build up the scarcity again.
Oh, that’s great to know about YouthBomb! I never normally spend so much on body lotions, but it had got to the point where my usual Dove/whatever was on special in Tesco just wasn’t cutting it any more!
I totally agree about Taylor - I hope she does have a bit of a break after this: it’s been great having so much new music, but it’s getting hard to keep up 🙈
I think you dealt with the fly sitch perfectly. My two used to be the same about insects - once Joe carried home a ladybird called Steve and was inconsolable when he realised he’d flown away somewhere on the way. Harry once made us have a funeral for a centipede on holiday in Spain. You weren’t dismissive and you affirmed Max’s feelings.
I am also always baffled when people claim not to be able to care about more than one thing. Also I remember when Michael Jackson died, a friend tweeted “I was more upset when Kurt Cobain died.” And? I was more upset when my mum died, WHAT’S YOUR POINT?
(I still haven’t listened to that Taylor song, despite the Harry connection. Must get on that!)
Steve! I love it! And the Michael Jackson comment is so weird - like there’s a hierarchy of who we’re allowed to feel upset about. I can’t understand the weird impulse some people have to want to tell everyone how unaffected they are - I just don’t get what they think they’re adding to the discussion 😣
I was wondering if you’d listened to the HS stuff yet. It’s a great song, tbf - I’ve had it stuck in my head for days now!
