Looks like I picked the wrong week to release my new audiobook
Please don't hate me, I have free copies for you...
All week on Threads (Which, yes, I should at least attempt to tear myself away from, given how often it makes me want to cry…), people have been telling each other how utterly intolerable it is to see authors promoting their books right now, when all we should be talking about is the results of the U.S. election. And yet, here I am, promoting my (audio) book and begging you not to hate me for it, because the world may be a dumpster fire, folks, but unfortunately I still have to eat, just like all of the other people in the world who had to get up and go to work on Wednesday morning, and the only way I can afford to do it is by writing books about slightly awkward women who keep getting themselves into a helluva mess.
Yes, it’s weird to me, too.
(Side note: I’ve never really understood why it is that those other people — the bus drivers, and the cleaners, and the accountants, and the PR executives, and the check-out assistants who steadfastly ignore you in ZARA while you wait to pay for that jumper you’re trying to buy from them — are apparently ‘allowed’ to continue working as usual, while the writers are expected to down tools indefinitely, and sit wringing their hands in despair. I would very much like someone to explain this to me…)
Anyway. Like many of you, I woke up on Wednesday morning and was instantly plunged into the kind of despair that can’t really be cured by a good romcom, unfortunately. I really wish it could. I also kind of wish Audible would’ve picked literally any other time to finally approve the audiobook version of The Accidental Actress, but they didn’t, and I’ll just quickly add here that this release date wasn’t my choice: the book was actually supposed to come out a few weeks ago, but it got hit with hold-up after hold-up, and, well, here we are…
This book is narrated by the exceptionally talented Angela Cleland, and it’s available on Amazon, Audible, and Apple Books. Like the audio version of Cool Girl Summer, I have several review copies to give away for free, and, unlike Cool Girl Summer, which I neglected to promote until it was almost too late to do it, I wanted to give you all plenty of warning this time, which is why I’m sending this out now, even though I’m low-key terrified it’s going to land me on the list of Authors to Avoid1 that’s currently doing the rounds on Threads and TikTok.
You can get your free copy here, and all I ask in return is that, once you’ve listened to it, you leave me a quick review, or even just a star rating. In more bad news, however, I’m afraid these review copies are currently only available to readers (listeners?) in the U.K. and U.S., which I understand is disappointing to those of you based elsewhere. I’m so sorry about this; if it helps, however, the books are currently being recorded in French and German, and we have plans to add other languages soon, so hopefully I’ll have more codes for you by the end of this year, and all will be well.
In the meantime, you can, of course, still buy the paperback and ebook versions, and briefly escape into a world in which your biggest problem is falling in love with the movie star you’re only supposed to be fake dating.
Seriously, though, wouldn’t that be amazing?
Until next week,
Yes, there is an actual list. I think it’s maybe the third one this year. There’s nothing the book world loves more than a witch hunt.
Looking forward to the german audio book! This increases the number of people to whom I can recommend it so much!
