Hi, I’m Amber Eve — author of smalltown romantic comedies, and my long-running blog, Forever Amber. If you’d like to know more about me, start here. If you’d like to hear more from me, meanwhile, hit the button below…
Guys, I did it: I finally finished book # 8 — all 98,875 words of it.
(And that’s after I ‘edited’ it. It started out with something like 103,000…)
I haven’t set up a pre-order for this book, because of the weird/bad experiences I had with the last two (With Cool Girl Summer, someone took the opportunity to leave me a 1 star Goodreads review before the book was even out, just because they disagreed with something they thought I’d said on Threads1, and with The Ghostwriter of Christmas Past, another author decided to release a book with exactly the same name on exactly the same day — and, I’m sorry, but no one’s ever going to convince me that was just some kind of random ‘coincidence’…), so I’m basically going to just drop it when it’s ready, like Taylor Swift did with Folklore and Evermore, except probably with a lot more of a muted reaction from the general public, to be honest.
Anyway, I finished the book last Friday, and have spent all of this week re-reading/editing it, which means I’ve been bouncing wildly between thinking that this is IT — this is the book that’s going to make me a household name and solve all my problems! — and thinking I should just give up writing altogether, because, seriously, how many times can one person type the word ‘suddenly’ without realizing she didn’t actually need to use it at all, and that she could just indicate that something happened ‘suddenly’ by, I dunno, having it happen suddenly?
(I’m not going to tell you the answer to that, so let’s just say it was a lot…)
Such is the life of an indie author, though.
On the plus side, I managed to reduce the wordcount considerably, just by removing all the ‘suddenlys’. And then all the ‘justs’. And all the times the characters blinked, or frowned at each other in confusion. Follow me for more writing tips…
But the first edit is done. January is finally over, even though it felt like it would never happen. Today, the sun won’t set until 5:02pm. And hopefully all of that means next week I’ll have something a little more interesting to share with you all.
Until then, folks,
And I didn’t even say the thing they thought I said! Woe!
Congratulations!!!
„Hot Winter Girl“?! Will it be a sequel to Cool Summer Girl? Another Christmas Story? Or did Taylor Swift inspire you to drop a red herring? :o Either way, I‘m looking forward to the release day.
Congrats! You're a workhorse! (can I say that or is it an Americanism?) I don't know how you can write a book so fast, with all your other responsibilities and a handful of a kid (although adorable).
