Re-Reading My Teenage Diaries: January 1990
It's all fun and games until someone has the audacity to die on New Year's Day...
Back in my Patreon days, I spent a few weeks painstakingly transcribing one of my old diaries, which I then published for the, er, delight of my patrons at the time. I also had a version of it behind a paywall on my blog, but the plugin I used for it stopped working, and when I was taking the posts down last week, I happened to read this one, which documents the entirety of my January 1990, and which casually made my blood run cold as I realised just how many parallels there are between 1990 Me and Current Me. (And Me-Of-Last-Week’s-Newsletter, more specifically.) I kind of wanted to cry, actually.
But! No use crying over old diary entries, when you can publish them on your Substack instead, is there? So here, for your reading pleasure, is a short insight into the life of a teenager in the 1990s, complete with some very-necessary commentary from Current Me.
